How it all came about
The crew at Creativity Matters has spent many happy hours taking care of numbers so our clients can keep doing the clever and creative stuff they love.
We are a team of proven and successful entrepreneurs, with management, finance, technical, marketing and sales skills. One of our management team runs a successful marketing and graphic design agency and knows what it’s like on the inside. Another has built a successful business providing finance expertise to these sorts of businesses. We all speak your language and relate to your challenges.
Working inside lots of businesses that sell time, we were in the right place to come up against the brick wall that exists when it comes to finding a simple tool capable of providing meaningful information on business performance. Claims to the contrary are made by several software tools, but they’re really just measuring boring business essentials. They don’t take things any further in terms of helping owners/managers make the right choices at the right time.
Gut feeling has had to go a long way, but we meet lots of people who want reassurance. They agreed, so we built something that gave them it.
Masses of accounts stats and spreadsheets clearly weren’t going to help translate the gobbledegook. So we figured out how to make a big impact with the information, painlessly and for little cost. SumsUp was conceived, but there were a few things to figure out first.
Firstly, what do managers actually need to see? This was the easy bit, as we know the few key measures that really matter and can describe the clever calculations that make it look so simple.
Secondly, what would it look like? We recognise how important this is and have become quite good at drawing pictures. These are the Profit and Cash Packs – they visualise your business using clear, simple graphics.
Thirdly, how can we get data into the software? Most businesses' accounts packages hold the financial info we need. So we came up with a plug-in to integrate with the leading packages.
The rest of the info that SumsUp needs is time recording. There are loads of time-tracking software, all of which do pretty much the same thing, but we couldn't integrate with all of them. So we built our own to include all the best bits. This is the Job Pack.
